My Digital Diet
Creators whose content I love to consume (and content I avoid).
If you’ve found yourself on this corner of the internet, you are likely someone who approaches the food you eat, the way you move your body, and how you spend your time with intention—but if you’re not careful, maybe your digital diet doesn’t always get the same level of thought. Just like with food, what we consume online can either fuel us or leave us feeling drained.
Not just the “I should really get off my phone” kind of drained, but the deeper kind—the kind that shifts our mood, focus, and even our view of what’s possible in life.
Because whether we realize it or not, the content we consume is shaping us. It’s shaping our goals, our self-worth, our beliefs about success, the way we feel in our own skin, the mindset with which we approach each day, and so much more. It’s like a diet—but instead of food, it’s the messages, ideas, and influences we allow into our minds.
So, just as I approach food with intentionality, I do the same with my digital diet—being mindful about what I consume and, just as importantly, what I avoid.
This idea was sparked by Julia Broome, who recently shared her own “Digital Diet” on Instagram. Julia is one of my favorite creators in the business of content creation space—her insights on building a brand and a true community are so valuable, especially if you’re looking to turn a creative passion into a business.
Today, I’m sharing my Digital Diet—the creators I turn to for learning, inspiration, entertainment, and encouragement—plus a few rules I follow to keep my relationship with social media healthy.
Here are some of my favorite creators to follow by category! 👇🏻
What I’m Consuming
📌 Business & Content Creation
If you’re a creator, entrepreneur, or just someone who loves learning how digital businesses work, these are my go-to sources:
Julia Broome (@juliabroome) on Instagram – Her content is gold for anyone navigating content creation as a business. She shares a *ton* of free resources for content creators in need of smart, creative ideas on how to grow on social media, bring the most value to their communities, and build a brand that lasts.
The Skinny Confidential Podcast – Hosted by Lauryn and Michael Bosstick, I enjoy the blend of business, beauty, and wellness that this podcast offers with honest interviews and actionable takeaways.
All In Podcast – If you like a mix of business, tech, and cultural commentary, this is a fascinating roundtable with top investors and entrepreneurs. It keeps me up to date on AI, cryptocurrency, and the economy.
Coco Mocoe on Substack – I kind of skip over the pop culture recaps, but if you like digital trends, Coco dives into the psychology behind what makes content go viral and talks about what to expect in the future of content creation. She offers very unique and insightful perspectives that have me thinking more deeply about the type of content I’m creating.
Parea Books on Substack – My business coach, Amy, writes a weekly Substack that delivers incredible business insights as well as deep-dive book reviews with a business and self-development spin.
🌿 Wellness
I love learning about health, hormones, longevity, non-toxic living, the benefits of exercise, and how to improve your life through simple, intentional wellness practices.
Better with Dr. Stephanie Estima Podcast – This is a health podcast specifically focused on women’s health. Dr. Stephanie brings on experts to discuss hormones, supplements, the best types of workouts, etc. for women.
What’s the Juice Podcast – Olivia Amitrano (aka @organic_olivia) blends herbalism, alternative healing, and science-based health topics with a unique approach I don’t hear anywhere else. You can feel her genuine curiosity and deep desire to learn as much as she can from each podcast guest she hosts. I love that she is open to changing her mind and being wrong when it comes to health and wellness.
Huberman Lab Podcast – Dr. Andrew Huberman is a Stanford neuroscientist who takes a very scientific approach to explaining health, fitness, and productivity. Though I’m not a weekly listener, I will search his podcast when I want a deep-dive on a specific topic.
Pursuit of Wellness Podcast – Hosted by Mari Llewellyn, this show covers science-backed health topics and personal wellness journeys in a conversational, easy-to-digest way. I really enjoy her Q&A-style podcasts, which are equally entertaining and insightful.
Camille Marie on Instagram – Camille is an acne nutritionist who shares tips on how to heal your acne holistically. I’ve learned so much from her, gotten so many great product recs for my acne-prone skin, and got her help on my ebook, Radiant Skin Rest, which focuses on skin-nourishing foods. She’s also currently living in Costa Rica, which is fun to follow along with.
Tess Zolly on Instagram – Tess is an esthetician specializing in acne with an online practice that has helped so many women clear their skin at home! She shares acne-friendly foods, makeup and product recommendations, and actionable insights that will leave you feeling confident (rather than overwhelmed) about how to care for your best skin.
💄 Beauty & Fashion
At 31, I feel like I’m still finding my personal style and aesthetic (anyone else feel this way?) so I’ve been intentional with following creators who are either educators or who have a strong sense of personal style that isn’t trend-based. Here are a few I love.
Katie Jane Hughes on TikTok – A celebrity makeup artist who teaches skin-first, effortlessly cool makeup techniques. Her videos are long (for short form anyway), which I love because I feel like I’m getting real instruction on how to apply makeup that is natural and chic. She’s changed the way I do my makeup!
Champagne and Chanel on Instagram – A go-to for classic style and affordable fashion finds that will elevate your wardrobe. She is a fellow Austin-based creator and is also pregnant right now, so her content has been a huge help as I navigate my first season of maternity clothes!
Stylin by Aylin on Instagram – I can’t even tell you the number of recs I’ve gotten from Aylin! She shares beautiful home decor and approachable ways to level up your wardrobe. If you’re looking for a mix of high-low fashion finds, makeup and skincare recs, and neutral home decor, Aylin is your girl.
Hunter Premo on Instagram – A go-to for western-inspired, colorful, feminine looks. She is the queen of a good accessory and I love that she clearly has so much fun with fashion—her fits are always infused with joy.
🎭 Entertainment & Lifestyle
Not everything has to be educational—entertainment is important for mental health, too ;) These creators make me laugh, inspire me to seek more balance in life, and encourage me to live life unfiltered.
Madeline White on TikTok – If you love creative fashion hacks and DIY styling, Madeline’s content is endlessly entertaining. I found her content during the series of pajama-gate scandals, which she was unfortunately caught up in when she launched her pajama brand in December. I thought she handled the scandal with such grace and accountability that I started following her and found her to be absolutely lovely and hilarious!
Napkin Notes Podcast – One of my good friends, Elizabeth Evans, has been a podcast producer for years and finally launched her own podcast last year! It’s a fun, conversational podcast that feels like eavesdropping on two best friends talking about life, relationships, and pop culture. Listen to the episode I did with her here.
Bee Better on TikTok – I find his hot takes and “downfall” videos about celebrities and influencers to be shockingly well-researched and thought-provoking (oh, and hilarious).
Sarah’s Day on YouTube – One of the OG health & lifestyle vloggers, Sarah shares wellness, motherhood, and fitness in an unfiltered way. I’ve followed Sarah for almost 10 years now and her story about healing her acne holistically inspired my own deep-dive into clearing my skin without medication.
Wonderled.life on Instagram – Maybe it’s because I’m pregnant, but I have been really into content that romanticizes a slow life.
🙏 Faith
I love consuming content that challenges me to think deeper and strengthens my faith.
Brilliant Perspectives Podcast – Super short (like 12-15 min) conversations on faith, identity, and spiritual growth that are so refreshing and insightful.
BEMA Podcast – A deep-dive into historical and cultural contexts of the Bible that has really stretched my understanding of the Bible.
How I Keep My Digital Diet Healthy
Consuming the right content is important, but so is setting boundaries. Here are a few parameters I set to keep a healthy relationship with social media:
No social media in the first or last hour of my day – nothing kills a calm, intentional morning for me like a dopamine and anxiety hit from social media, so I avoid it in the mornings. I also fall asleep quicker at night when I give my brain space from seeing social content before bed.
No scrolling when I’m feeling anxious. This only makes it worse. Breathwork, prayer, or a walk outside instead!
I don’t follow creators who preach wellness as if it’s a religion – I love a good, curious conversation about health and wellness, but if fear and judgement are the primary undertones, I’m out!
I don’t follow accounts that promote diet culture. I was prey to too many of those in my 20s and didn’t realize how much they were influencing my view of myself and food.
This one is going to sound odd, but I don’t seek out advice on new, big things I’m currently experiencing – Example: I’m pregnant, but I don’t consume pregnancy content (except for the funny stuff) because it’s *so* overwhelming and everything contradicts. Until I find the few voices that resonate with me and my experience, I won’t be tuning into pregnancy content.
I am quick to unfollow or mute any content that encourages a mindset or behavior that I don’t want in my life – negativity, gossip, comparison, content that doesn’t align with my morals – you get the picture. I’m very intentional with my follow and because Instagram has changed its algorithm to constantly show you people you don’t follow, I am very intentional with letting the app know that I’m “not interested” when they are suggesting content that doesn’t fit my parameters :)
